Iowa 2010 Class, Strongest, Deepest in Recent Memory

The state of Iowa's 2010 class is without a doubt one of, if not THE, strongest class in Iowa in recent memory. It has strength at the top, and is solid all the way through in terms of college recruits. It boasts the nations top player (Harrison Barnes), two players that are consensus top 150-200 players (Zach Mccabe and Doug Mcdermott) and a host of other Division One recruits. Here's a look at the players, and their potential impact at the collegiate level.

Harrison Barnes, SF 6'8".-Committed to UNC

What can be said about Barnes that hasn't been said already? He has the total package-the best mid-range game in the country, a deadly shot from behind the arc, athleticism, defensive instincts, and a great head on his shoulders. Look for him to come in and start immediately at UNC, and average around 10-14, and 7.

Doug Mcdermott, PF, 6'7"-Committed to UNI (Yes, the same UNI that beat Kansas)

Mcdermott was a late bloomer, but has really come on strong recently. He ended up picking the Panthers over his fathers Iowa State Cyclones and the Central Florida Knights. Mcdermott is a skilled power forward who can move out to the wing on offense, where he is dangerous from three point land. Mcdermott is a good rebounder, in spite of his slight frame. He has a very skilled offensive game, and is a match up problem for other teams. McDermott will need to add bulk before he takes his game to the next level at UNI, but should be able to contribute immediately for the Panthers. Expect him to assume a role similar to Jake Koch for the Panthers, and come on strong as the season progresses

Zach Mccabe, PF, 6'7"-Committed to Iowa

Although his commitment status remains in flux with the removal of Todd Lickliter at Iowa, Mccabe is a viable option for high major schools. A power forward who prefers the face up game, Mccabe earned his rep on the travel circuit this summer by stroking it from all over the court, much like almost everyone else in his class in Iowa, will need to add weight to be able to match the physicality of Big 10 foes. If Mccabe does indeed go to Iowa, expect him to see some playing time filling the shooter role for the Hawks.

Nathan Buss, F, 6'8"-Committed to UNI

Buss is another multi-dimensional forward committed to the Panthers. He can score in a ridiculous number of ways, and has enough length that he is a pest on the defensive end of the court. A Panther legacy, Buss' dad also played for the Panthers. However, Buss is skinny enough to make Mcdermott look like the Incredible Hulk. A redshirt could be possible for the versatile forward, especially with the Panthers also bringing in beastly rebounder Chip Rank from Wisconsin.

Will Artino, PF, 6'11"-Committed to Creighton

Skilled big man who can step back and hit the J out to about 17 feet. Dana Altman and Co. did a great job landing him after he blew up on the summer circuit playing for the Iowa Barnstormers. Another redshirt candidate, Artino is rail thin (Noticing a theme here?) Look for him to come on late in his career for Altman. Has the potential to be a very good player in time.

Dau Jok, SG, 6'3"-Committed to Penn

A straight up shooter, Dau can splash it all the way from his native Sudan. Has really added muscle, and improved off the dribble. Needs to diversify his game offensively and improve ability to attack off the dribble. Dau could end up being a steal for Penn, and should contribute immediately as a shooter off the bench who has the potential to go off at any time. With continued work, Dau could one day end up as one of the premier shooters in college basketball.

Trayvonn Wright, 6'7", F-Committed to North Dakota State

A freakish athlete who high jumped taller than his height as a junior, has really improved his skill level. He will be the best athlete on the floor at all times for NDSU, and could have gone anywhere in the country on a track scholarship. He has grown leaps and bounds lately. Look for Trayvonn to contribute immediately for the Bison as a lockdown defender and highlight reel maker.

Others to keep an eye on:

Kody Ingle, SG/SF, 6'4", Uncommitted

He is considered a tweener by a lot of college coaches, but all the kid does is produce. Can shoot it, be physical. Quickness is his biggest detriment right now, but he is someone five years down the road people will look at and wonder why he didn't go to a higher level.

Creon Reed, 6', Combo Guard Uncommitted

Creon is a combo guard who is explosive and physically ready for the next level. Grade issues have forced Creon to consider the juco route, but after his two years at community college he will be primed to go the Division One route.

Branden Stubbs, 6'2, Scoring Point, Uncommitted

Made history as one of the leading scorers in state history. Has a sweet stroke, and is very versatile.

These players will be repping Iowa on the national stage for years to come. Be sure to keep an eye on this monster 2010 class!
