Doug Ferguson's Big Board for the 2010 NBA Draft

Now that the rest of the world has caught up with the DeMarcus Cousins train (http://probasketball.nbe-network.net/2009_1103/the-nba-draft-big-board-part-i-1-30/ from 4 months ago), its time to raise the stakes and update my big board. Its official, he's jumped John Wall. Questions about his character don't bother me, his talent trumps all. Here is the board.

1. DeMarcus Cousins/C/Kentucky/6-11/275/FR
Player Comparison: Al Jefferson
Skinny: If you don't know about him just call him
2. John Wall/PG/Kentucky/6-4/200/FR
Player Comparison: Derrick Rose
Skinny: The table has been set as the PG of the future must be athletic and explosive
3. Evan Turner/SG/Ohio State/6-6/205/JR
Player Comparison: Tayshaun Prince
Skinny: Ohio St. is in kind of a catch 22 because if Turner doesn't enter they are for sure national title contenders next year
4. Al-Farouq Aminu/SF/Wake Forest/6-9/220/SO
Player Comparison: Josh Smith
Skinny: I would like to see him show more intangibles but his athleticism is one of a kind
5. Cole Aldrich/C/Kansas/6-11/245/JR
Player Comparison: Brook Lopez
Skinny: His fundamentals bode well for a long future as a pro
6. Donatas Montiejunas/SF/Benetton Treviso/7-0/230/1990
Player Comparison: Keith Van Horn
Skinny: Many compare him to Dirk but that is a lot to live up to for such a youngster
7. Xavier Henry/SG/Kansas/6-6/220/FR
Player Comparison: Paul Pierce
Skinny: A unique physical specimen with a body that is ready for the NBA NOW
8. Derrick Favors/PF/Georgia Tech/6-9/250/FR
Player Comparison: Derrick Coleman
Skinny: Could probaly stand another year of seasoning in the ACC
9. Ed Davis/PF/North Carolina/6-9/225/SO
Player Comparison: Al Horford
Skinny: Continues to fall as a result of Carolina's struggles to win
10. Greg Monroe/PF/Georgetown/6-10/250/SO
Player Comparison: Horace Grant
Skinny: A strong contender for Player of the Year in the nation's best conference
11. Jan Vesley/SF/Partizan Belgrade/6-11/230/1990
Player Comparison: Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Skinny: THE name to watch as draft time nears
12. Wesley Johnson/SF/Syracuse/6-11/205/JR
Player Comparison: Gerald Wallace
Skinny: His stock has started to level off with mediocre play as of late
13. Stanley Robinson/SF/Connecticut/6-8/220/SR
Player Comparison: Josh Childress
Skinny: With NBA athleticism could also be a future dunk contest contender
14. Willie Warren/SG/Oklahoma/6-4/205/SO
Player Comparison: Chauncey Billups
Skinny: There are good tweeners and bad tweeners....Warren falls in the latter category
15. Kemba Walker/PG/Connecticut/5-11/175/SO
Player Comparison: Mookie Blaylock
Skinny: Continues to prove me right as the draft's #2 PG despite UConn's struggles
16. Gani Lawal/PF/Georgia Tech/6-9/235/JR
Player Comparison: Nene
Skinny: One of those guys who is solid and could really help a team get over the hump
17. Patrick Patterson/PF/Kentucky/6-8/235/JR
Player Comparison: Juwan Howard
Skinny: Has really benefited from having two freshman phenoms as teammates
18. James Anderson/SG/Oklahoma State/6-6/195/JR
Player Comparison: Wesley Person
Skinny: If Aminu and Robinson are dunk contest contenders, Anderson is surely a future 3 point shootout threat
19. Solomon Alabi/C/Florida State/7-0/250/SO
Player Comparison: Erick Dampier
Skinny: Having an iffy season but 7 footers don't grow on trees
20. Dominique Jones/SG/South Florida/6-4/215/JR
Player Comparison: Mike Miller
Skinny: May have helped himself more than anyone with his play this season
21. Jarvis Varnado/PF/Mississippi State/6-9/215/SR
Player Comparison: Kenyon Martin
Skinny: Has a knack for shot blocking that you just can't teach
22. Craig Brackins/PF/Iowa State/6-11/230/JR
Player Comparison: Charlie Villanueva
Skinny: The new age 4 man that can take it inside and out
23. Devin Ebanks/SF/West Virginia/6-7/205/SO
Player Comparison: Shawn Marion
Skinny:Not having quite the season he was expected to have
24. Avery Bradley/SG/Texas/6-2/180/FR
Player Comparison: Steve Francis
Skinny: Probably the most gifted player on a talented Longhorn's roster
25. Sherron Collins/PG/Kansas/5-11/215/SR
Player Comparison: Jason Terry
Skinny: A proven winner and another who can really help a team who is already winning to get over the hump
26. Eric Bledsoe/PG/Kentucky/6-1/195/FR
Skinny: May be a tad overhyped....playing in the same backcourt as John Wall is always beneficial
27. Elias Harris/PF/Gonzaga/6-8/225/FR
Skinny: I still can't decide if he is a better talent than teammate Robert Sacre
28. Hasaan Whiteside/C/Marshall/7-0/235/FR
Skinny: He better not believe the hype...The NBA is a loooong way from Conference USA
29. Kalin Lucas/PG/Michigan State/6-0/180/JR
Skinny: He should be charged with petty theft if he takes Big Ten POY from Turner
30. Scotty Hopson/SG/Tennessee/6-7/200/SO
Skinny: Size, length, and athleticism tailor made for the NBA
31. Terrico White/SG/Mississippi/6-5/215/SO
Skinny: He and Hopson could be 30 and 30A for the same reasons
32. Elliot Williams/SG/Memphis/6-4/180/SO
Skinny: Experience playing the point at Duke last season was invaluable
33. Daniel Orton/C/Kentucky/6-10/255/FR
Skinny: The only person at Lebron James Skills Academy who came close to stopping Cousins
34. Jon Scheyer/PG/Duke/6-5/180/SR
Skinny: Experience playing the point THIS year at Duke has been invaluable
35. John Henson/PF/North Carolina/6-10/205/FR

36. Gordon Hayward/SF/Butler/6-8/210/SO
Skinny: Another player who has the release and range to be an NBA shooter
37. Jeff Taylor/SG/Vanderbilt/6-7/210/SO
Skinny: Has the size of a pro, just not sure if he has the ability yet
38. DaSean Butler/SF/West Virginia/6-7/225/SR
Skinny: Smooth, fluid, and experienced
39. Alexey Shved/SG/Dynamo Moscow/6-6/180/1988
Skinny: Rounds out a very small class of 3 Euro players in the top 50
40. Scottie Reynolds/PG/Villanova/6-1/185/SR
Skinny: Surprisingly not many people are talking about the possible Big East POY
41. Greivis Vasquez/PG/Maryland/6-6/200/SR
Skinny: Everyone always loves a player with the size and versatility to play both guard spots
42. JaMychal Green/PF/Alabama/6-9/225/SO
Skinny: Former McDonald's All-American is probably wishing Nick Saban could recruit basketball players as well
43. Robert Sacre/C/Gonzaga/7-0/250/SO
Skinny: A carbon copy of Darrell Arthur right down to the number
44. Paul George/SF/Fresno State/6-8/210/SO
Skinny: I tend to question why such a talented team can't win any games
45. E'Twaun Moore/SG/Purdue/6-4/185/JR
Skinny: By far the best player on Purdue but is never recognized as such
46. Larry Sanders/PF/VCU/6-10/235/JR
Skinny: Many consider him a lottery pick but he still fails to dominate a semi mid-major conference
47. Damion James/PF/Texas/6-7/225/SR
Skinny: Has worked on his perimeter game and the success of undersized 4's such as Carl Landry make me think he can possibly succeed
48. Iman Shumpert/SG/Georgia Tech/6-5/205/SO
Skinny: His size and ability to run the point make him valuable
49. Malcom Lee/SG/UCLA/6-5/180/SO
Skinny: The resurgence of the Bruins has helped him immensely
50. Quincy Pondexter/PF/Washington/6-7/215/SR
Skinny: Dominant at times but mostly against guys his size... I wonder if he can handle the wear and tear of an NBA season

ABOUT ME

Basketball is not what I do, it is who I am. When I was a senior in high school I made the decision to forego college so that I could commit every waking moment to my passion. I've tried to give my job a label, but there really is no one title that describes it. My old site focused on covering high school basketball in Illinois and reporting recruiting news, and DP B-ball was created to enable my staff and I to do much much more. This blog is a transition site until the real DPBball.com gets released, and my staff and I will be updating daily with tons of fun and exciting content about everything high school hoops. With highlight videos, interviews on camera and off, recruiting news from around the globe, compelling feature articles, and much more, DP B-ball is the place to be for anybody who shares my passion. It's YOU, the people of the basketball community, that make it possible for me to do what I love every day, and for that I am forever grateful and willing to do whatever I can to help you all just like you do for me. So email me anytime, and if you love hoops like I do, consider me your friend. Thanks, and enjoy!
